Your Say On New, Bigger Proposal for 500 Sheppard Ave.
East
A new applicant at this site is
proposing a much larger project than what was previously
negotiated between the City and the applicant as a
settlement of an appeal at the Ontario Municipal Board.
The previous approval was for a 25-storey residential
tower and a 9-storey office building. As an indication
of how emboldened developers are by changes made by the
provincial government in 2019, a new applicant is asking
for two buildings of 39 and 34 storeys on top of a
4-9-storey podium.
The proposed development would
contain 928 residential units. It is likely that this
development will be appealed to the Ontario Land
Tribunal, the provincially-appointed body which has the
final say over all controversial development proposals
which frequently ignores the wishes of your elected City
Council or the views of the community or of the City's
professional Planning staff .
