Have Your Say On New, Bigger Proposal for 500 Sheppard Ave. East

A new applicant at this site is proposing a much larger project than what was previously negotiated between the City and the applicant as a settlement of an appeal at the Ontario Municipal Board.  The previous approval was for a 25-storey residential tower and a 9-storey office building. As an indication of how emboldened developers are by changes made by the provincial government in 2019, a new applicant is asking for two buildings of 39 and 34 storeys on top of a 4-9-storey  podium.

The proposed development would contain 928 residential units. It is likely that this development will be appealed to the Ontario Land Tribunal, the provincially-appointed body which has the final say over all controversial development proposals which frequently ignores the wishes of your elected City Council or the views of the community or of the City's professional Planning staff .

If you'd like more information on this proposal, or to comment, you are invited to attend a June 6 community consultation meeting, starting at 7 p.m.

To join, visit the City of Toronto's community planning consultation website here: http://www.toronto.ca/cpconsultations  .

If unable to attend, contact our office at councillor_filion@toronto.ca or 416-395-6411.
